To help build awareness for the launch of HBO’s Black storytelling platform, Scene In Black, we partnered with HBO’s Multicultural Marketing team to produce a series of events that started with a celebration of the final season of Insecure in Los Angeles and culminated with events in Chicago and New York City.
These events drew inspiration from Black family reunions while fostering a “Past Empowers Future” theme, bringing together HBO Max Talent and programming with elements of the local culture in each market.
The Scene In Black launch event series concluded in Brooklyn, NY at the Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse.
Over 350 attendees filled the room and partied to sounds by DJ Out.Of.Office. Delicious dishes were served from local Black-owned food vendors Aunts et Uncles, Footprints Café and Grandchamps. Custom giveaways designed by NYC-based artist Ant Blue Jr. were gifted upon entry,
Guests had the opportunity to capture social content in the Scene in Black photo moments including a timeline wall of the late rap icon DMX.
Attendees experienced an advanced screening of HBO Music Box: DMX: Don’t Try To Understand followed by a Q&A with the director Chris Frierson, moderated by Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins.
The night ended with a sultry performance by R&B artist Asiahn and legendary NY rapper Jadakiss.
